BICHOLIM

Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal has criticised the Bicholim BJP unit for the poor condition of Bicholim Primary Health Centre (PHC) and unavailability of full-time officials in Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC).

Speaking to reporters, Sawal hit out at BJP for not giving attention to the deteriorating condition of Bicholim PHC. “The Bicholim PHC does not have ambulance and X-ray machine, which are the prime requirements of any hospital, due to which patients are suffering.”

He added that he had been following up the matter with Health Minister Francis D’Souza, but so far no action had been initiated. He also accused the standing committee of not following up on necessary works.

Sawal has requested the health minister to give proper attention towards Bicholim PHC by equipping it with an ambulance, X-ray machine, etc.

Speaking on BMC's state of affairs, he said there are no full-time officials right from chief officer to the tax officer, recovery officer, senior and junior engineer, affecting the working of the council in terms of development.

“People have to wait for their files as they do not get cleared in time due to unavailability of full-time officials,” he said.

He maintained that amount of development funds which the BJP is claiming to have increased from Rs 3 to Rs 5 crore is only on paper and in reality the council is yet to receive it.

Sawal has also requested Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to appoint full-time officials in all the sections at BMC to increase the pace of development work and to avoid inconvenience faced by the people.

Stating that BMC Chairperson Satish Gaonkar is a hard working man, he has requested the chief minister to make available the increased amount sanctioned by the government for development in cash to the BMC.
