A couple of country-made canoes are believed to have ventured into the shallow waters off Holant and Velsao on Friday, but hopes of fish loving Goans that they can look forward for sea fish netted by the traditional fishermen with ramponn and motorised boats may not materialise at least for a day or two due to inclement weather.
Even as some country-made canoes netted small fish, popularly known as ‘korbott’ off the Hollant and Velsao coast, president of Goenche Ramponkarancho Ekvott Agnelo Rodrigues told The Goan on Friday evening that he has received a communique from the control room, Fisheries warning the traditional fishermen from venturing out into the sea due to gusty winds.
He pointed out that the sea is still rough, not conducive for the traditional fishermen to venture out into the sea.
“We will wait till Saturday morning to assess the situation before taking a call whether to venture out into the sea or not,” Agnelo said.
Sources in the know said that the traditional fishermen from Benaulim or Colva have till date not ventured out into the sea with motorised canoes because of the inclement weather conditions in the sea.
“We are all ready to venture out into the sea, but the huge waves battering the coast is not conducive to enter the sea,” remarked a fishermen from Benaulim.
