Upset over the continuous overflowing of sewage through chambers along the roads in Baina roads, angry residents have demanded a permanent solution to the issue.
According to residents, the sewage overflow is a regular issue, especially during monsoons, as the road starts flooding with sewage mixed with rainwater. What has made matters worse is that vehicles splash the sewage water into roadside shops or on pedestrians. “The entire area is stinking and every time we go to the PWD office, matters are resolved temporarily and sewage starts seeping again within a few days,” complained a resident.
“Parents of many students who walk along the road to the schools have now been instructed to avoid the road, as it could pose serious health issues to the innocent children as well,’ the resident added.
A shopkeeper Mangal Chauhan, informed that the entire stretch of shops in the area are now struggling to attract customers, who are choosing other shops to avoid the sewage-flooded roads.
“We are almost out of business as there are no customers and no one wants to come here with their feet in the sewage waters along the road. The PWD acts on our complains but the problem reoccurs after a few days,” said Chauhan.
Social worker, Aminiddin Mullal, said he had been witnessing the problem since the last three years, especially during monsoons.
“This is the same situation here with every monsoon. The PWD comes and cleans up but the problem is resolved only temporarily. We have schools in the vicinity and this is posing a serious health issue to students as well.”
