SGPDA retail vendors upset over theft of fish

MARGAO

Retail fish vendors in the SGPDA retail market are up in arms over the theft of fish from the market, bringing to the fore the question over the security system in the market.

The fish vendors claimed that the police had nabbed a rickshaw owner in the wee hours of the day around two days ago and has demanded action in the matter, including recovery from the culprit. Fatorda police, however, said that the police have received no complaint from the fish vendors till date.

The police has further maintained that the rickshaw puller who was suspected behind the theft of fish has claimed that he had come to the market in the wee hours of the day based on a request from a customer.

Fish vendors, however, are up in arms over the safety and security in the SGPDA market. A fish vendor told the media that fish, worth around Rs 50,000 have been stolen by culprits from the PDA retail market in recent times.

“This only goes to show that the SGDPA retail market has not proper security”, the vendors said, while demanding that the SGPDA Chairman Krishna Daji Salkar inspect the market and put the security system in place.
