If the Bhoma locals are facing the prospects of getting displaced due to the highway expansion project, the same is the story with the Corlim locals who are also opposing the same as the road widening project passes through Corlim before entering Bhoma.
And though the Corlim locals were vocal in the past, in recent times their voices have not been as vociferous as that of the Bhoma locals.
But the locals from Corlim and Bhoma are united in opposing the project and are fighting it out together, even in the High Court.
A local, Richard Pereira, informed that the Corlim locals have been opposing the highway road widening project in the same way as the Bhoma locals.
“In Corlim, there are around 45 houses which are going to be directly or indirectly affected by the project,” Pereira stated.
On the opposition to the project, Pereira stated that since a flyover is planned in Corlim, when the work on the pillars will commence the houses existing along the road will get damaged just like what happened in Cortalim and Agassaim.
“Our houses are very old, and they would not be able to withstand the vibrations that will occur when work on building the pillars for the project commence,” Pereira stated.
Further, he pointed out that since the pillars will be built in the middle of the road, then there will be a need to build roads on both sides for smooth flow of traffic.
“The question arises is how they will build these roads without affecting the houses situated along the stretch?” Pereira opined.
Further, he stated that there are power lines and water supply pipelines that need to be shifted before commencement of the project.
“Where are they going to shift the power lines and the water supply pipelines?” he posed.
Just like the Bhoma locals, the Corlim locals too have doubts in their minds about the project and they too seek answers.
And just like Bhoma, an alternate bypass road was proposed by the Corlim locals through the fields, from Bhoma to the Kadamba road.
“The bypass road has been shown in the Regional Plan and it will save houses of the locals from demolition,” he said and demanded that a bypass road be built to save houses from Corlim.
