Two killed in accident at KTC bus stand


PANAJI

Two passengers were killed and three others were seriously injured on Saturday morning, when they were knocked down by a private bus while they were alighting from another private bus at the Panaji KTC stand.  

The driver of the private passenger bus has been arrested in this connection.  

According to police reports, the incident took place at about 7 am, when a private bus (GA-01-T-8154) entered the KTC bus stand and passengers were alighting from the vehicle.  

Around the same time, another private bus (GA-07-F-1972) entered a no-entry zone and knocked down passengers who were alighting from the other private bus.   

The injured passengers were rushed to the GMC hospital, where Shankar Thakur (51) from Mestawada, Curti-Ponda and Tulsidas Bhat (72) from Bicholim, died while undergoing treatment.   

Prerna Bhagat (25), a teacher from Marcela, Lovu Vaigankar (54) of Divar and Vincent Braganza (29) of Santa Cruz are undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
