BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has stated that the government plans to start night colleges in the State, in a bid to enable office-going people to complete their graduation.
Parsekar was speaking to local reporters during his recent visit to the Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) office.
“I am planning to start night colleges so that officegoers should get standard education, instead of pursuing studies through correspondence courses, which has limited scope.”
“I will put forth this proposal in the forthcoming budget session. Night colleges will be started in the existing colleges which have good infrastructural facilities.”
“Initially, four to five colleges will be started on experimental basis and if the project is successful, then the government will concentrate on starting additional classes,” Parsekar said.
He directed the PWD and Power officials to pay personal attention to maintain the power and water supply in Bicholim.
He also asked BMC to forward proposals of major projects to be undertaken to the State government.
Parsekar assured to construct an indoor stadium at Bicholim, if there is ample space. He directed WRD officials to construct a Bandhara on the Bicholim River and also assured to appoint a full-time chief officer at BMC.
On the occasion, BMC Chairperson Rajaram Gaonkar, Kundan Falari, Ajit Birje, Rajan Kadkade and Sudan Govekar put forth their grievances.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar, Mamlatdar Gurudas Desai, DySP Ramesh Gaonkar, PI Narayan Chimulkar and the officials of PWD, WRD and power department.
Later, the chief minister inspected the Shivaji Maidan at Bicholim.
