Residents of Nagargao Panchayat in Sattari have demanded immediate completion of the approach roads to the newly constructed bridge near Shri Hanuman Temple, alleging that the unfinished work has made commuting difficult and unsafe.
While the bridge, a long-pending demand of villagers, was completed a few months ago, the approach roads remain unfinished, depriving residents of its full benefit.
As a temporary measure, stones have been dumped on the approach roads, but they have neither been levelled nor compacted, making travel hazardous. More than 40 families depend on the route for their daily commute, and locals fear the poor condition could also hinder ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
The situation has worsened during the monsoon, with rainwater collecting over the stone-filled stretch, concealing potholes and increasing the risk of accidents, particularly for two-wheeler riders. Poor visibility at night has added to the danger.
Residents alleged that despite repeated requests, the contractor has failed to complete the remaining work. They have accused the contractor of negligence and unnecessary delay.
They have urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to inspect the site, direct the contractor to complete the approach roads without further delay, and initiate action if lapses are found. They have also sought an inquiry into the delay and appealed to local MLA and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to intervene and expedite the work.
