Members attending the Agonda gram sabha on Sunday were given an unusual item to take home, two kgs of manure free of cost which was produced from waste at the Agonda garbage treatment plant.
The gram sabha deliberated on various development works and also passed resolutions on some decisions.
Agonda Sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues, who chaired the Gram Sabha, informed that eight tenders have been approved for development works and they include gutters, roads constructions, and blacking topping of roads at Parvem, Mudkud, Karashirmoll and Mudcheli.
Some residents raised the issue of stray dogs menace particularly along the beach front at Dhavalkhazan and the sarpanch assured to look into the problem.
Panchayat Secretary Amol Naikgaunkar informed the members that the panchayat took major steps in addressing the garbage problem and had even installed a modern plant to process the wet garbage.
“The one provided by the government takes about a fortnight to process the garbage, but the Agonda panchayat engaged a privately operated and innovative machinery which processes wet garbage almost on a daily basis.”
“We have more than a tonne of manure processed from wet garbage ready for usage and taking advantage of International Day for Biological Diversity, the panchayat will set up kiosks.”
The secretary said the panchayat has engaged special workforce to collect garbage and to operate the baling machine.
“They help maintain cleanliness along the roads and some of the dark spots in the village,” he said.
Some members also raised the issue of speed breakers, road signs and advertisement boards.
Later, members present at the gram sabha were handed over two kgs of manure produced at the village garbage plant free of cost.
Dy. Sarpanch Preetal Fernandes, panchas Canisha Fernandes, Karuna Phaldessai and John Fernandes as well as Biva Velip, representative of the BDO Canacona, were present at the gram sabha, while Ramnath Velip and Nilesh Pagi did not attend the meet.
