Grassroot bigwigs continued to descend at the office of the Returning Officers for Salcete taluka to file nomination papers for the ensuing Panchayat polls.
Outgoing Camurlim sarpanch Basil Fernandes and Curtorim deputy sarpanch Simon Barretto besides many outgoing panchas filed their nomination papers for the panchayat polls.
Outgoing Camurlim sarpanch Basil Fernandes, who has headed the panchayat on more than one occasion, told the media after filing his papers, that he is confident that the people will elect him to play another innings in the panchayat.
Saying that the Camurlim panchayat had put a wet waste plant in place, Basil said it will now take up the project of treating the plastic waste in the village.
When asked whether he has the support of Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, Basil said he has no idea whether the MLAs support any candidate in the ensuing polls, adding that he enjoys the support of the people.
Curtorim outgoing deputy sarpanch Simon Barretto accompanied by former Curtorim ZP member and Congress leader Moreno Rebello filed his nomination papers on Wednesday.
Simon said several works could not be completed by the panchayat in the outgoing term during the Covid pandemic, besides the election code of conduct.
