Amonkar on Monday carried out a site inspection of the proposed hospital along with officials of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC). The hospital is planned on a 4,000-square-metre plot and is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the port town.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Amonkar said the foundation stone for the project is tentatively scheduled to be laid on July 26 by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the presence of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and GSIDC Chairman Michael Lobo.
The MLA described the hospital as one of the most important projects for the constituency, stating that it would address the long-pending demand for improved healthcare facilities in Mormugao. He said residents presently have to depend on Goa Medical College and Hospital, Chicalim Sub-District Hospital and private healthcare institutions for treatment, and the new hospital would help bring quality medical services closer to the people.
Amonkar also highlighted the employment potential of the project, saying the hospital would create job opportunities for local youth in medical, nursing, technical, administrative and support services.
He expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe and assured that all efforts would be made to provide the constituency with a modern healthcare facility equipped to cater to the growing needs of the region.
