Zuarinagar locals oppose mobile tower on building

VASCO

A group of residents led by a local panch has opposed a tower on the terrace of a building complex at Zuarinagar-Sancoale.

The aggrieved locals alleged that the tower was installed overnight by Tome Carvalho, adding that they had opposed a tower in the vicinity on an earlier occasion and it was forced to close down.

The residents later reported their grievances to local Sancoale Panch member Satish Padwalkar.

Padwalkar along with residents went to the site, but alleged that Carvalho refused to reveal any documents.

“Residents have complained that Carvalho had organised the digging of the road for cabling purposes at night and had got the cable connected to the tower of the terrace of his building,” said Padwalkar.

“The locals claimed that the tower was erected overnight. I took the villagers and we met Carvalho and asked him about the tower. I had gone there only to enquire, but the owner argued in public.”

“We are opposing this tower and want to get it removed, if it is illegal. The villagers have earlier forced another tower to stop functioning after they staged protests. We don’t want another tower here,” said Padwalkar

Refuting all charges, Carvalho told the media that the panch has no authority to question the tower.

“He is no authority to question the legality of the tower and he should not have brought a mob along with him to send wrong signals. He should not take law in his hands. If he requires information, he should approach the authorities concerned, instead of coming here with a mob. Let authorities decide and take action if it is illegal,” said Carvalho.

When contacted, Sancoale Panchayat Sarpanch Girish Pillai said he would look into the matter. “I will check the file and see if necessary permission was given. We will take necessary action.”
