Chapora YS, Vagator qualify for playoffs

Chapora Yuvak Sangh and Youth Parish Vagator qualified for the playoffs of GFA II Division League after winning their respective matches on Friday.

While Chapora Yuvak Sangh defeated Goan Warriors 3-0, Youth Parish Vagator got the better of Pilerne SC with an identical scoreline. Chapora Yuvak Sangh finished with 26 points at the top along with Vagator, who also finished with 26 points from the same number of outings. However, Chapora had a better goal difference (+38) than Vagator (+22).

Meanwhile, Benny Xl defeated Sinquerim SC 6-1 at Salvador Do Mundo Ground while Cunchelim SC beat Bidesh Xl Assonora 5-2 at Guirim Ground.

Arlem YA down Guardian Angel to enter semis
Arlem Youth Association beat Guardian Angel SC 2-1 and entered the semifinals of the 25th Holy Cross Inter-village football tournament at Kakoda on Friday.

Guardian Angel missed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Joel missed an easy goal with a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. In the second half, Danny Fernandes of Arlem scored in the early minutes for a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute.

Soon after, Guardian Angel got a chance to equalise through a penalty kick but Ivo missed the golden opportunity to score as the Arlem Youth goalkeeper made a fantastic save. Later in the match, Klins Mendes scored an excellent goal with a free-kick just from outside the penalty area in the 43rd minute, giving Arlem Youth a 2-0 lead.

Guardian Angel played hard to equalize but could only manage to score a lone goal from the boots of Valerian Hilario in the 58th minute.

Valentino goal fires Chandor Club ahead
Chandor Club registered a solitary goal victory over Goa Velha SC to enter the quarterfinals of the Davorlim Panchayat Cup football tournament organized by Davorlim SC at Davorlim ground on Friday. Prasil Kankonkar of Goa Velha missed a chance to score in the 30th minute. Valentino Carvalho netted the match-winner in the 38th minute.

Canacona SCC secure resounding win
Canacona Sports & Cultural Club trounced Arlem Youth Association 6-2 to enter the final of the OL of Assumpta Cup inter-village football tournament at Church ground, Chinchinim. Leading by four goals at the breather, Alvito scored a brace while Yamnur, Pralhad, Velvino and Terence scored a goal each for Canacona SCC. The only goal for Arlem YA was scored by Sweden.

Navelim Veterans make it to last-eight
Navelim Veterans edged past Nuvem Veterans 1-0 to move into the quarterfinals of the third Assolna Veterans Football Cup at Assolna ground on Friday. Claudio’s goal came midway through the opening half when his deft placement found the far corner of the Nuvem goal in the 34th minute. Navelim came close to scoring at least twice in the early stages, but goalkeeper Lawrence Dias stood strong to keep Nuvem in the game. Nuvem went all out for the equaliser in the second half, but their strikers were too much in haste once before the Navelim goal.

Bodybuilding association cancels memberships
The membership of Sanjay C Patil and Viraj Arabekar has been cancelled by the Goa Body Building and Fitness Association. The General Body of the association in their Extra Ordinary General meeting held at Margao unanimously decided to cancel the membership of both Patil and Arabekar as they were found guilty of repeated instances of misbehaviour and misconduct that attract cancellation of their membership to the Association in terms of Rule6 (i) read with Rule 6 (iv) as per the rules and regulations of the association.

As per the decision of the General Body, they cease to be the president and vice-president respectively. It was also unanimously decided by the General body that Sanjay Shet Raikar will be the acting president until the next elections for electing the Executive Committee of the association.

UYC Bogmalo edge PY Association
United Youth Club of Bogmalo defeated Parish Youth Association by a solitary goal in a Round 2 match of the GFA Second Division League at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco.

UYC Bogmalo were leading 1-0 at halftime off a superb goal by Ajay Patel. In the second match played at the Panchayat ground, Chicalim, formidable Chicalim Sports Club beat strong contenders Mormugao United SCC 5-2 in an absorbing encounter. Chicalim were leading by a solitary goal scored by Yaseen Dessai.

In the second half, Pradeep Bind brought in the equalizer for Mormugao before taking the lead in the 50th minute through Amol Raul. Chicalim fought back and scored two quick goals through Rueben and Aaron Fernandes. Leevan Pinto joined the Chicalim scorers' list with a good goal while local lad Aaron completed his brace in the 82nd minute to give victory to Chicalim.

OL Rosary beat St Joseph HS to advance
Our Lady of Rosary High School Fatorda overcame St Joseph High School Aquem 2-1 to move into the quarterfinals of the 1st All Goa Our Lady of Carmel Inter-school Soccer tournament at DSYA ground, Curtorim on Friday.

Fatorda scored through Jeff Baretto in the 48th minute and Meviton Barbosa in the 54th minute. For St Joseph Aquem, Messiah Rebello scored the lone goal. The chief guest for the match was Ayaan Momin.

In the evening match, Mount Mary's High School defeated Assumpta Convent High School Sarzora 4-0 and moved into the quarterfinals. Mount Mary's scored through Sohail Shaikh in the 12th, 40th and 55th minutes. The other scorer was Om who netted in the 37th minute. The chief guest for the match was Fabio Martins.

Hockey junior selection trials on May 13
PANAJI: Goan Hockey will conduct selection trials to pick junior men's and women's teams for the hockey nationals to be held at Rourkela, Odisha from June 12 to 22 (men) and June 27 to July 7 (women's) respectively.

The selection trials will be held on May 13 at 3.30 pm at Astroturf, Sports Complex, Peddem - Mupusa. Players born on or after 1/1/2005 are eligible for the trials and should report to the Goan Hockey officials Beny Viegas or Carl D'Souza at the venue along with their birth certificate.
