Cuncolim Union beat United Club of Benaulim 2-1 to march into the quarter-finals of All Goa Chinchinim Villagers Trophy inter village football tournament organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at Church ground, Chinchinim on Sunday. Cuncolim Union led 2-0 at half time.
Cuncolim Union went in search of the opening goal straight from the kick-off and the deadlock was broken in the 13th minute when striker Daulat Dessai picked up the ball from Adney Fernandes and the former beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. Buoyed by the lead, Cuncolim Union continued to push for another goal and they were rewarded in the 28th minute when Adney Fernandes' pile driver gave no chance to the rival goalkeeper.
At the other end, United Club of Benaulim were subdued and their movements restricted to midfield as they slowly tried to get back into the game but could not penetrate the rivals' defence. After the break, Cuncolim Union continued to enjoy the better share of the exchanges and had a couple of chances to inflate their tally but their forwards frittered away good chances. Midway in the second half, United Club of Benaulim managed to reduce the margin as winger Nicolas Rodrigues' left-footed drive beat the Cuncolim Union goalkeeper hands down.
