Varca Sports Club staged a remarkable comeback to defeat CAC Cansaulim 5-3 in a goal-laden encounter at the 17th London Trophy Inter Village Football Tournament 2025, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club.
The match began at a frenetic pace. Varca’s Jobern Cardozo threatened early, but his first-minute attempt was thwarted by CAC Cansaulim goalkeeper Anish Naik. Varca continued to press, with Andres Da Costa’s free kick hitting the post in the 8th minute. However, it was CAC Cansaulim who drew first blood, with veteran Agnelo D’Souza heading home a Domnic Soares cross in the 20th minute.
Varca responded quickly, with Jobern Cardozo leveling the score in the 23rd minute. Varca then squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead when Allan Fernandes hit the post and Klinsson Pereira headed wide with an open goal. Just before halftime, Agnelo D'Souza struck again, giving CAC Cansaulim a 2-1 lead.
The second half saw Varca's resurgence. Aaron Bareto hit the crossbar in the 45th minute, signaling Varca’s intent. He then scored twice in quick succession, leveling the score in the 48th and 56th minutes, completing his brace. Substitute Aaron Rodrigues put Varca ahead in the 65th minute, tapping in a Clavis Gonsalves cross. Gonsalves then sealed the victory in the dying minutes, making it 5-3.
The match was intense, with Aaron Bareto of Varca SC receiving caution from the referee.
Agnelo D’Souza, despite being on the losing side, was awarded the Man of the Match for his two goals, presented by Michael D’Souza, Vice President of Goa Velha Sports Club.
