Speaking after returning from a visit to the United Kingdom, Sardesai said members of the Goan diaspora were equally dissatisfied with the present government in Goa and wanted stronger political support from the state. "We have dedicated this award to the people of Goa. During my visit to London, the major demand raised by the Goan diaspora was for dual citizenship," Sardesai said.
Sardesai was recently honoured with The People's Award 2026 as International Politician of the Year at the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. He said the award had originally been announced in March but he could not travel then due to the ongoing Goa Assembly session and received it during the July presentation ceremony.
"We raised the issue of the Goan diaspora in the House of Commons. The Goa Government calls them overseas citizens but treats them like second-class citizens," Sardesai alleged.
He said the GFP has a clear plan to support the Goan diaspora by providing guidance and ensuring they receive special status in Goa if the party forms the government. "This is our commitment. If our government comes to power, Goans living abroad will receive a special status in Goa," he said.
Sardesai further claimed that many Goans are forced to migrate abroad in search of employment because the state government has failed to generate adequate job opportunities within Goa.
