In order to provide fast and efficient medical care to accident cases, the state government aims to set up one trauma unit each in North and South Goa.
The Director of Transport, Nikhil Desai, said, "We have asked the health department to send us a proposal to set up one trauma unit in North and another trauma unit in the South by availing financial assistance from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways."

Desai continued, "In the meeting, we also decided to introduce road safety-related syllabus in the school curriculum from the next academic year 2018-19. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has prepared a draft and the same had received inputs from the traffic police and experts and efforts are underway to introduce the curriculum during the forthcoming academic year."
The Council deliberated on a number of ideas to make people more aware about road safety. A Road Safety Week will be held in Goa either by the end of January or in the beginning of February.
During the meeting, it was also be decided to have a campaign on road safety on social media, wherein youngsters will be educated about road safety measures through videos. The idea is to spread as much education about road safety as possible.
Desai also informed that the council decided to further carry on enforcement measures to curb the number of accident cases in the state.
A number of operators provide bikes to tourists on rent, but often the helmets they provide don't bear ISI mark. The Council took a note of this and told the transport department to instruct all the rent a-bike-operators to ensure that only helmets with ISI mark are provided to the renters or else action will be initiated against them.
The Council also told the transport department to continue taking action against driving schools, which are not following norms.
