Houses flooded in St Cruz and Cumbarjua

OLD GOA

Heavy rains that lashed the State affected the constituencies of St Cruz and Cumbarjua, with incidents of flooded houses and uprooted trees reported from these areas.

In Santa Cruz village, the main nullah overflowed and water entered houses of residents of Cabesa“Anexim.

“The nullah got blocked due to accumulation of waste resulting in water overflowing,” said Sarpanch Marian Araujo, adding that the water had also entered Kids World Primary School.

“A JCB machine was put in service to clear the blocked nullah and by evening the problem was solved,” Araujo added.

In Merces, the A Lua road was completely submerged giving a tough time for motorists in travelling along the road.

The villagers had forewarned that the construction of the court building in the catchment area would

result in flooding of the

area and they have been proved right.

When contacted, former sarpanch Prakash Naik said construction of a culvert has been proposed by the NHAI as a solution to the problem.

In Chimbel too, it was a regular feature of water-logging near the underpass at Kadamba road near Saibaba temple, where the water level reached above knee-level. The Old Goa fire personnel made their presence at the area and helped in diverting the water.

Water-logging was also reported along the road leading from Old Goa towards Carambolim, near the Ela farm entrance making it tough for motorists and pedestrians, in particular.

The Old Goa fire personnel also cleared two uprooted coconut trees which were reported fallen in Divar.

“We also cleared a tree which had fallen on the road near a food factory at Goa Velha,” a fire personnel informed The Goan.
