Panic has gripped residents of Goval ward in Cottombi-Avedem after a leopard reportedly killed two calves in a fresh livestock attack, the second such incident reported in the area in the past two months.
Locals said the leopard entered a cowshed and attacked the calves, leaving them dead. The repeated attacks have increased fear among villagers, who are now concerned about the safety of their livestock and families.
Following the latest incident, villagers have urged the Forest Department to increase surveillance of leopard movement and take immediate preventive measures to prevent further attacks.
They have also demanded the installation of camera traps at vulnerable locations to track the animal’s movement and allow timely action.
Residents have further sought adequate compensation for livestock owners who have suffered losses, stating that repeated leopard attacks are affecting the livelihoods of farmers and cattle rearers.
