Expressing concern over the reluctance of panchayats to send their development proposals, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho said funds of about Rs 27 crore were not utilized and had to be returned to the Central government.
“This should not happen. I clear files of various proposals of village panchayats the same day. I request panchayat members to send good development proposals in order to give good service to the people,” said Godinho.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a community hall at Shirgao, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 37 lakh utilising panchayat funds. Mayem MLA Praveen Zantye, Sarpanch Sadanand Gaonkar, and other panchayat members were present at the function.
Godinho also appealed to youth to pursue dairy farming as the government has undertaken many projects in this sector.
“Efforts are being made to make Goa self-sufficient in milk production,” the minister said.
In his address, Zantye said pancahyats are the backbone of local development and appealed to panchayats to promote people-friendly
projects and provide good infrastructure.
Sarpanch Sadannd Gaonkar also spoke at the function.
